Nicole and Dave met in 2008 at Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Dave was fresh from Bolivia and Nicole had been living Boston, where she spent most of her time wrapped in a parka. Dave taught their group of friends competitive charades and his easy-going attitude got him nicknamed "Kim Jong-Fun," the Dictator of Fun. Nicole was known for lock down one-on-one conversations and dinner parties.
After graduation, Dave moved to DC to build a career as a political consultant and Nicole stuck around Cambridge an extra year for a business degree and then moved to Los Angeles. Three years later, they were still friends when Dave planned a trip to LA for a friends' wedding and decided to add on a visit to Nicole in Santa Monica...
When Dave arrived in Santa Monica, Nicole decided to throw a giant Fourth of July party (Dave loves parties)--and they had their own fireworks. After spending most of the weekend together, Dave had to go home, but made a big play: Despite the fact that he was about to move to Venezuela for three months, Dave suggested they see each other exclusively. Never to be outdone, Nicole one upped him and flew herself out to DC four days later to see what this was all about.
After crisscrossing the country and the globe, Dave moved back to California to be closer to Nicole, with a month long layover in Sao Paulo, where Nicole was on assignment. With short hops between San Francisco and Santa Monica over the next couple of months, Nicole decided that she would make one final jump and move to San Francisco.
Two years and lots of frequent flier miles later, Nicole and Dave finally got a chance to live in the same place. And, it turns out that they really liked hanging out with each other. Like every day. All day.
On their second anniversary, July 4 2014, Dave proposed to Nicole with breakfast in bed at home in San Francisco. He had already packed the car with all of her favorite things--her espresso maker, 80% dark chocolate, and Sauvignon Blanc--and some classic rom-coms. They drove to Big Sur, where they stayed in a beautiful cottage near Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park.
Nicole and Dave had a magical weekend hiking in the redwoods, playing on beaches, and watching the waves break on the cliffs. They decided during the weekend that they wanted to share it with everyone they loved, and chose Big Sur as the location for the wedding.
